Wartburg, Luther Rivalry Continues at Levick Arena

WAVERLY, Iowa – The Wartburg College men's basketball team (14-8 overall, 6-7 IIAC) will host Luther College (3-16, 1-11) on Wednesday at 8 p.m.

The Series
The Orange and Black hold a 74-29 all-time series record over Luther. When the teams met in Decorah earlier this season, Wartburg came out on top 73-66.

Playoff Picture
Buena Vista (10-3) is the top of the Iowa Conference and was the first team to clinch a spot in the postseason conference tournament. Nebraska Wesleyan (9-4) is in second, followed by third-place Loras (8-4), and Central (6-6) and Dubuque (6-6) sharing fourth. Fifth place Wartburg (6-7) and Simpson (6-7) will both fight to return to .500 on Wednesday. Coe (4-8) and Luther (1-11) round out the conference team standings.

Wartburg
Wednesday is the only game for the Knights this week as Saturday is an off day due to an odd number of IIAC teams. Wartburg is 7-3 at home this season and average 86.4 total points per contest versus Luther's 62.2. Senior Nick Webber (Peosta) was the team's leading scorer in both road games last week. He scored 20 points at Loras and 14 at Central. In those same games, junior Nate Woeste (Atkins) and sophomore Josh Gehling (Dyersville) were the top rebounders with six and 11 grabs, respectively.

Luther
The Norse captured their first Iowa Conference victory of the season last week at Coe. Jared Nicolaisen is Luther's only player to average double digits in scoring this season with 11.3 points per game.

Wartburg ranks in the top 100 of 11 NCAA stat categories. The Knights rank third in free throw attempts (587), third in free throws made (425), 26th in scoring offense (86.4), 37th in field-goal percentage (48.1) and 45th in assist turnover ratio (1.26). They also rank 50th in total assists (321), 51st in turnover margin (3.0), 60th in turnovers per game (12.1), 85th in three-point field-goal percentage (37.1), 96th in won-lost percentage (66.7) and 97th in assists per game (15.3).

Individually, one Knight ranks in the top 100 of two different categories. Sabus ranks 23rd in free throws made (113) and 37th in free throw attempts (138).
