WAVERLY, Iowa -- The Wartburg College men's basketball team (14-9 overall, 6-8 IIAC) fell to Luther College (4-16, 2-11) on Wednesday 69-64.
Wartburg shot a .414 field goal percentage to capture a 38-34 advantage after the first 20 minutes of play. The Knights poured onto their lead in the second, up by as many as 15 points at the 8:26 mark, but the Norse began to chip away. With 2:26 remaining, Luther took its first lead of the game, 62-61. The teams were tied 64-64 at the 1:31 mark, but Luther took the advantage and kept it until the final buzzer.
Junior Sawyer Herman (Monticello) was the team's top scorer with 15 points, including three makes from three-point range and 6-6 from the free throw line. Sophomore Jaran Sabus (Urbandale) was next in line with 12 points. Herman and Sabus were the only two Knights to hit double digits.
Sophomore Josh Gehling (Dyersville) grabbed the most rebounds for the Orange and Black (10) and Herman recorded the most steals (3).
The Knights are off this weekend, but return to action at the University of Dubuque on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 8 p.m.
