Softball Travels to WashU for Weekend Tournament

WAVERLY, Iowa-- The Wartburg softball team (10-4 overall) travels to St. Louis to play in Washington University-St. Louis' weekend tournament. The Knights will play Webster (12-4) Saturday at 11 a.m. and host-WashU (8-4) at 1:15 p.m.

Webster
Kayla Day is the leading hitter with her .485 average. Four players join her above .300: Abby Burroughs (.389), Kat Johnson (.351), Taylor White (.326) and Kat Sullens (.320).

WashU
Hannah Mehrle leads the Bears with a .523 average. Amy Walsh and Kenzie James join her above .500 at .515 and .500, respectively.

Wartburg
Sophomore Kailee O'Brien (Altoona) leads the team with her .511 average and Mara Forsyth (Charles City) follows at .442. Forsyth has a team-high 22 RBIs.

Senior Kimberly Wedeking (Clarksville) leads the pitching staff with her 3.10 ERA, is 7-2 in 52.1 innings pitched with 36 strikeouts. She also has a nine-game hitting streak entering the weekend.

Individually, three Knights rank in the top 100 of 12 different categories. Junior Mara Forsyth (Charles City, Iowa) ranks 25th in runs batted in per game (1.57), 28th in RBIs (22), and 92nd in slugging percentage (0.767).

Senior Kimberly Wedeking (Clarksville, Iowa) ranks 21st in victories (7), 88th in shutouts (1), and 99th in strikeouts (36).

Senior Taylor Smola (Stevens Point, Wis) ranks 44th in home runs (3), and 81st in home runs per game (0.21).
