Wartburg Travels to Face Simpson

WAVERLY, Iowa – The Wartburg softball team (15-11 overall, 3-3 IIAC) travels to Indianola to take on Simpson (5-19, 0-6 IIAC) Wednesday at 3 p.m.

The Series
Simpson holds the all-time series lead at 43-31. Wartburg went 1-2 against Simpson last year. During the regular season, the Knights won the first game 11-2 in five innings and lost the second one, 2-0. Simpson beat Wartburg in the Iowa Conference Tournament semifinal game, 4-2.

Wartburg
Junior Mara Forsyth (Charles City) leads the team in batting average (.407), RBIs (40), and home runs (9) while second on the team with doubles (8). In the first meeting of the season last year, Forsyth had a home run and three RBIs against Storm.

Sophomore Kailee O'Brien (Altoona) is second on the team in batting average at .391 with 18 RBIs.

Senior Taylor Smola (Stevens Point, Wis.) is second on the team with 23 RBIs to go with her four home runs. She is the third-leading hitter with an average of .365 along with eight doubles this season.

Senior Kimberly Wedeking (Clarksville) leads the pitchers with a 3.95 ERA, 10 wins and 11 complete games. She is tied for second on the team in home runs with four and fourth on the team in batting average at .356 with RBIs at 16. In the first game of against Simpson last year, Wedeking went 2-3 with two homers and six RBIs.

Career Record Watch
Wedeking now holds the No. 4 spot on the program's career-leader list in complete games (42) and is seventh in strikeouts (201). Forsyth is now fourth in career home runs (19).

Simpson
Ashley Allen leads her team in batting average (.314), doubles (6), and RBIs (8). Madison Rasmusson has the team-best ERA at 2.45 and 27 strikeouts. She has three wins along with six complete games.

National Stat Rankings
Wartburg ranks in the top 100 of seven NCAA stat categories.

The Knights rank 22nd in stolen bases per game (2.50), 31st in doubles per game (1.88), 38th in home runs per game (0.65), 44th in slugging percentage (0.473), 56th in scoring (6.35), 84th in on base percentage (0.488), and 93rd in batting average (0.319),

Individually, three Knights rank in the top 100 of nine different categories. Forsyth ranks sixth in home runs (9), seventh in runs batted in per game (1.54), eighth in RBIs (40), 13th in home runs per game (0.35), 19th in slugging percentage (0.864), 39th in total bases (70), and 79th in runs per game (1.12).

Wedeking ranks 44th in victories (11). Sophomore Liz Roby Miklus (Ankeny, Iowa) ranks 71st in stolen bases (0.65).
