WAVERLY, Iowa-- The Wartburg volleyball team moved to 7-2 on the season as it split its matches Saturday at the Knights Classic Tournament.
The Knights fell 3-1 to Cornell (25-20, 25-22, 17-25, 25-22) but defeated Waldorf 3-1 (25-20, 16-25, 25-12, 26-24).
Against the Rams, senior Aryn Jones (Marion) picked up where she left off Friday night as she set a new-career best with 22 kills. Sophomore Megan Wagaman (Springville) and junior Lizzy Blough (Dike) each had 10 kills in the match. Blough tied her career mark with four service aces.\
Junior Mallary Erbes (Urbandale) had 22 assists and senior Maria Brown (Peosta) followed with 21. Erbes had a team-high 19 digs, while freshman Katie Foster (Charles City) had 15 and Wagaman recorded 11.
The Knights held the team advantages in service aces (8-5) and blocks (11-4).
In the final match of the weekend, Jones had a team-high 15 kills while freshman and fellow middle Kylie Bildstein (Dyersvile) joined her in double digits with 10. Jones recorded a new career-best with seven service aces.
Brown had 19 assists and Erbes had 17.
Similar to Friday night, Foster set a new career mark with 25 digs and matched her career-best with three aces.
As a team, the Orange and Black owned all categories, including aces (12-5) and blocks (10-6).
For her efforts on the weekend, Jones was named to the All-Tournament team.
Wartburg returns to the court Wednesday when it hosts Coe in the Iowa Conference opener at 7 p.m.
