Volleyball Remains Undefeated, Wins Music City Classic

NASHVILLE, Tenn.-- The Wartburg volleyball team (3-0 overall) won the Music City Classic in sweeping fashion this weekend. The Knights swept both of Saturday's opponents, Huntingdon (25-9, 25-20, 25-18) and Lakeland (27-25, 25-12, 25-20).

The Orange and Black jumped to a 16-6 lead in the first set against Huntingdon and won seven straight points to claim that frame. Wartburg earned four-straight points to claim the second set and used a seven point run to pull ahead for good at 20-15 in the final set.

Senior Aryn Jones (Marion) had a team-best nine kills. Classmate Maria Brown (Peosta) had a double-double with 16 assists and 11 digs while freshman Katie Foster (Charles City) had 14.

In the final match, the Muskies compiled a late rally to lead 25-24. The Orange and Black recorded three-straight points, two of which were kills by Jones. Wartburg led 17-9 at one point in the second set and saw Lakeland within two at 21-19 late in the third set but used a service ace by Bre Bader (La Porte City), a kill from freshman Kylie Bildstein (Dyersville) and took advantage of mistakes by the opponent to earn the sweep.

Jones had a team-high 12 kills, Brown had 12 assists and 11 digs, and Foster had 19 digs.

As a team, the Knights owned all of the team advantages, and held the Muskies to a negative hitting percentage (-.034).

The Orange and Black returns to the court next Saturday at Loras' Invite.
