No. 2/6 Wartburg Ties Program Record for Best Start in Win over Luther

WAVERLY, Iowa-- The No. 2/6 Wartburg women's basketball team tied the program record for best start with its 85-65 win over Luther Wednesday. The Knights are now 14-0 overall which ties the school record previously set by the 2010-11 squad.

Five players finished in double digits. Senior Kristie Sommer (Cedar Rapids) had a team-high 17. Twin sister Katie had 15 points and classmate Morgan Neuendorf (Plainfield) matched that total.

Senior Aryn Jones (Marion) recorded her second double-double of the season with 12 points and as many rebounds. She was one shy of her carer mark in rebounds, which she set against Central last week.

Sophomore Emma Gerdes (Cedar Falls) rounded out the leading scorers with 10 points and was second with eight rebounds.

The Orange and Black led 28-11 after the first quarter, and continued to lead by double figures for the duration of the game. The closest the Norse would trim the margin was 12 at 70-58 with 7:22 to play. Wartburg answered with a 6-0 run over the next two minutes.

The Knights held the advantages in field goal percentage (.463 vs. .365), three-point field goal percentage (.345 vs. .222), rebounds (47-41), assists (20-13), steals (12-9), and blocks (3-1).

The Orange and Black take to the road Saturday when they travel to face Simpson at 2 p.m.
