No. 21 Knights Host Beavers

WAVERLY, Iowa--The No. 21 Wartburg men's basketball team (11-4 overall, 4-2 IIAC) hosts Buena Vista (12-3, 5-1) Monday, Jan. 15 at 8 p.m. in Levick Arena.

The Series
Wartburg holds the advantage in the all-time series against Buena Vista at 64-49. Buena Vista won the first meeting last season, 86-79, but the Knights would avenge that loss in last season's regular season finale, 88-77 and an upset win in the first round of the Iowa Conference Tournament, 74-68.

Wartburg
The Knights enter Monday's game after splitting their games last week. Wartburg prevailed over Luther 73-51 and fell to Simpson, 86-81.

Three Knights power Wartburg's offense by averaging double digit points per game. Junior Jaran Sabus (Urbandale) leads the team with an average of 15.9 points per game. Senior Sawyer Herman (Monticello) nets 12.4 and classmate Nate Woeste (Atkins) scored 11.5. 

Defensively for the Orange and Black, Sabus also has a team-best 6.6 rebounds per game. Woeste leads the team in blocks this season with eight and freshman Max Smith Drahos (Cedar Rapids) has a team-best 23 steals. 

Buena Vista
Buena Vista comes into the contest after going 1-1 last week, defeating Dubuque, 96-87 and narrowly falling to Loras, 82-20.

The Beavers' offense is led by David Jeffries, who averages 16.2 points per game. Thomas Wisecup and Billy Sparks also average double digit points per game with 13.2 and 11.9, respectively. 

On the defensive side of the ball for Buena Vista, Wisecup leads the team in rebounds with 7.1 grabs per game. Matthew Goodman and Jeffries each average 5.3 rebounds per game. Jeffries also has a team-high 25 steals.
