CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa-- Four players for the No. 2/11 Wartburg women's basketball team finished in double digits in Saturday's 85-75 win over Coe. Senior twin sisters Katie and Kristie Sommer (Cedar Rapids) led the way with 24 and 20 points, respectively. Katie was three points shy and Kristie was four shy of their career marks.
Sophomore Emma Gerdes (Cedar Falls) and senior Miranda Murphy (Alleman) each had 12 to round out the leading scorers. Senior Morgan Neuendorf (Plainfield) led the team on the boards with eight rebounds. Classmate Aryn Jones (Marion) added a career-best five blocks.
With the win, the Knights move to 13-0 on the season and 4-0 in IIAC games.
The Orange and Black took the 21-11 lead after the first quarter and led 42-24 at halftime.
The Kohawks were able to cut the margin to five twice in the fourth quarter. The last occurrence came with 7:19 to play. Wartburg responded with an 8-0 run over the next two minutes to build the lead to double digits once again.
Coe chose to foul the Knights four times in the last minute to try to get the ball back. The Orange and Black made seven of their eight free throws to seal the win.
Wartburg owned the advantages in all three shooting percentages and blocks (8-0).
The Knights return home Wednesday to host Luther at 6 p.m.
