Women's Soccer Faces A-R-C Foe Luther College on Saturday

WAVERLY, Iowa – The Wartburg College women's soccer team will face American Rivers Conference rival Luther College this Saturday, Oct. 13 at 5 p.m.

The Series
The two programs have faced one another a total of 36 times in their individual histories, with Luther holding the series advantage over the Knights with 26 wins, 9 losses and one tie. The Knights last victory over the Norse came in their last matchup on Oct. 13, 2017, where the Knights defeated the Norse 3-0 and were led by a trio of Knights, including current senior Alyssa Drewelow (Cedar Rapids), who scored a goal to help the Knights end a two-game losing streak to the Norse.
 
Wartburg
The Knights (9-4-1 overall, 3-1-1 A-R-C) are currently stand third overall in the A-R-C standings, trailing Dubuque and Loras, but ahead of Luther (3-6-3, 3-1) by two spots. The Orange and Black are coming off of back-to-back victories over Nebraska Wesleyan and Buena Vista, who they recently beat 7-0.  
 
Wartburg is led in scoring by senior forward Nicole Adiar (Reinbeck) with seven goals this season. Trailing Adair in scored goals is freshmen Joy Smith (Polk City) with six, Drewelow with five, freshmen Kate Luers (Middletown) with four and senior forward Morgan Finch (Grinnell) with two. As a team, the Knights are outscoring their opponents 35-14, with 21 of their goals coming in the second period of their matches. Wartburg's 35 goals on the season are good for third place amongst A-R-C teams, trailing the first-place Central College Dutch who lead the league with 38.
 
Freshmen goalie Marissa Lopez (Ankeny) has held her own against opponents this year, only allowing seven goals in her 11 games played. Lopez has earned a 7-2-1 record, compiling 52 saves (.881) along the way.

Head Coach Tiffany Pins stands five wins away from tying the all-time winningest coach record (96) at Wartburg for women's soccer, held by former coach Jim Conlon (2000-07).
 
Single Season Record Watch
Lopez's goals against average (.74) ranks 10th all-time in a single season for Knights goalies.
 
Luther College
The Norse are led in scoring by Marta Springer with five goals. Trailing Springer is Hanna Christopher with three, Lizzy De Prenger with two and Sommer Stevens and Hailey Sanchez at one each. Luther's 12 team goals rank eighth overall in the A-R-C, four spots behind the Knights. The Norse are coached by Russ Schouweiler, who is in the midst of his ninth year at the helm. Over the course of his tenure at Luther, Schouweiler has led the Norse to an 86-65-12 record.
 
National Stat Rankings
Wartburg ranks in the top 100 of six statistical categories, which the NCAA released Monday.
 
The Knights rank 44th in total goals (35), 56th in total points (91), 75th in total assists (21), 89th in scoring offense (2.5), 95th in save percentage (.831), and 98th in points per game (6.5).
 
Individually, three Knights rank in the top 100 of four statistical categories: Adair ranks 40th in total assists (6);  Drewelow ranks 55th in game-winning goals (3); and Lopez  ranks 33rd in save percentage (.881) and 73rd in goals against average (.739).
