WAVERLY, Iowa-- The Wartburg volleyball team (12-8 overall, 5-1 American Rivers) snapped Loras' four-match winning streak in the 3-0 sweep Friday night. The Knights won the first set 25-19 and rallied to win the set 25-22, after they trailed 14-6 at one point. The Orange and Black took control in the third set to claim the match.
Sophomore Kylie Bildstein (Dyersville) led the team with eight kills, while senior Lizzy Blough (Dike) and sophomore Lexi Groe (Lake Mills) followed with six kills each. Groe led the team with her .545 hitting percentage.
Senior Mallary Erbes (Urbandale) had 19 assists and three service aces. Sophomore Katie Foster (Charles City) had 13 digs.
In the first set, Wartburg used a four-point run to take the early 6-4 lead and never looked back.
A different story played out in the second frame, as the Duhawks jumped to a 9-3 lead. The Knights compiled a six-point run to make it 14-12 in favor of the visitors, before Loras used a 6-1 run to make it 20-13. After the score was 22-16, the Orange and Black rallied with a nine-point run to win that set.
In the final set, Wartburg was ahead 5-2 early on and never relinquished the lead.
As a team, the Knights owned the advantages in hitting percentage (.211 vs. -.017) and blocks (11-4).
The Orange and Black return to the court in the morning at their own Quad tournament.
