WAVERLY, Iowa – The Wartburg College Knights women's soccer team hosted the Luther College on Saturday evening and came out with a triumphant 1-0 victory to improve to 10-4-1 overall on the season.
The Knights (10-4-1 overall, 4-1-1 A-R-C) started off the game going 0-7 on shots, with two shots coming on goal before senior forward
Nicole Adair (Reinbeck) scored her eighth goal of the year on a floater around the goalie at the 28:39 mark. The goal would give the Knights the 1-0 lead and would serve as the only goal of the half.
At the half, the Orange and Black led the Norse (3-7-3, 3-2) in shots with a 17-6 mark and in corner kicks five to three. On the year, the Knights have outscored their opponents 14 to 4 in the first half of their matches.
The Knights would continue to bring the offensive pressure to the Norse, out-shooting Luther 11-3. The Knights ramped up the defensive pressure, with help from Freshmen goalie
Marissa Lopez (Ankeny), to secure the 1-0 win and win their third game in a row. Lopez earns her eighth win of the year with the shutout effort.
The Knights will have a few days off before they head to Dubuque to take on the first-place ranked Loras College in a huge game for both programs.
