Women's Soccer Travels to Dubuque Wednesday

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Wartburg College women's soccer teams will take to the road this Wednesday to face the Spartans out of the University of Dubuque at 4 p.m.

The Series
The Knights and the Spartan's women's programs have met a combined 21 times throughout their respective histories, with the last matchup occurring on Oct. 4, 2017, in a 0-0 double-overtime tie. The last Knight's win over the Spartans occurred at Dubuque on Oct. 19, 2016, in a 1-0 contest.
 
Wartburg
The Knights (7-4 overall, 1-1 American Rivers) are coming off of a 2-1 defeat to Central College on Saturday and are tied for fourth overall with Dubuque in the conference standings. Led in scoring with six goals by senior Nicole Adair (Reinbeck), the Knights have combined for 26 goals on the season and have only allowed 13 through their first 11 matches. Freshmen goalkeeper Marissa Lopez (Ankeny) has led the way for Knight goalies with 40 saves (87%) in just over 600 minutes of play to go along with her 5-2 record, all while only surrendering six goals in those contests.  The Knights have seen consistency on the road, as they boast a 5-1 record in away contests.
 
Career Record Watch
Head coach Tiffany Pins currently sits at a career record of 89-44-22, which ranks as second all-time in matches coached (144) and second in wins, trailing former coach Jim Conlon (96) by seven victories. Goalkeeper Marissa Lopez's one career shutout is tied for 10th all-time in career shutouts, needing one to move up to ninth and two to move up to be tied for seventh. Nicole Adair's two penalty kicks scored this year are tied for first all-time in a season.
 
Dubuque
The Spartans (8-2, 1-1) are coming off of a 4-2 victory over Simpson College on Sept. 29. Lexus Rose leads the Spartans in scoring with six and Lauren Cangelosi leads the team in assists with six. As a whole, the team has scored 23 goals on 149 shots (15.4%), with 76 of those attempts on goal (51%). Victoria Roethler leads the goalkeepers in minutes (819:48), saves (36), and wins (6). The Spartans are coached by Jason Berna, who has served as the only head coach to the program since it's inaugural season in 2001. Now in the midst of his 18th season at the helm, Berna has a career record of 186-130-24 with 12 straight conference tournament appearances.
