Wartburg Four-Peats as Regular Season Conference Champions

STORM LAKE, Iowa-- The Wartburg volleyball team (15-9 overall, 7-1 American Rivers) four-peated as the regular season conference champions in its 3-0 sweep over Buena Vista (13-11, 4-4) Tuesday.

The Knights won 25-15, 25-22 and 25-23.

Senior Lizzy Blough (Dike) led the team with 15 kills and sophomore Kylie Bildstein (Dyersville) joined her in double digits with 12.

Senior Mallary Erbes (Urbandale) had 36 assists and added a double-double with 16 digs.

Sophomore Katie Foster (Charles City) had 15 digs and Blough also had a double-double with 10 digs.

In the first set, the Orange and Black built an early 10-6 lead which they never relinquished. Wartburg used a six-point run to take the lead at 19-18 in the second set and was able to fight off a late rally to claim the second frame.

BV compiled a late rally once more in the final set as two-straight points fought off match point at 24-23. The Knights sealed the sweep and title clinching victory on a Buena Vista attack error.

As a team, the Orange and Black owned the advantages in kills (42-38), assists (42-37), service aces (7-1), digs (62-60) and blocks (6-5). Wartburg held BV to a .095 team hitting percentage on the night.

The Knights will be the top seed for the A-R-C Tournament and will have a first-round bye. They will host Thursday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. against an opponent yet to be determined with an outstanding conference match to be played tomorrow.

The Orange and Black conclude the regular season this weekend at the WashU Invite in St. Louis, Mo.
