ST. LOUIS-- The Wartburg volleyball team (19-11 overall) concluded the regular season Saturday at the Baden Invitational, hosted by Washington University-St. Louis.
The Knights opened the day with a sweep over Aurora (25-16, 25-17, 30-28) and concluded their trip with a sweep over Belhaven (25-16, 25-16, 25-19).
Against Aurora, the Orange and Black used an early run in the first set and a late run in the second to build their leads. The third set was tied three times after 24 all, as Wartburg used a kill from freshman Jayme Willemssen (Waverly) and an attack error by the Spartans to claim the match.
Senior Mallary Erbes (Urbandale) surpassed 2,000 career assists and is only the fifth player in program history to accomplish this. Classmate Lizzy Blough (Dike) had a team-high 10 kills and added 14 digs. Sophomore Katie Foster (Charles City) had 19 digs.
In the finale, the Knights used a six-point run to build their lead to 18-10 in the first set. In the second frame, the Orange and Black built their lead to 17-10 and in the finale set, a six-point run to take the 23-17 lead.
Blough had 12 kills and sophomore Kylie Bildstein (Dyersville) had 10.
For her efforts on the weekend, sophomore Dani Johnson (Parkersburg) was named to the All-Tournament team.
Wartburg is off from competition until Thursday, Nov. 1 in the semifinal of the A-R-C Tournament. The Knights will await to learn their opponent from Tuesday's match between Loras and Luther.
