MOUNT VERNON, Iowa-- The No. 15/21 Wartburg women's basketball team (2-1 overall) defeated Carroll (1-2), 96-49 Saturday at the Cornell Classic.
The Knights jumped to a 25-16 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. They outscored the Pioneers in all four quarters, including 24-8 in the third frame.
This was the most points scored for the program since the 99-83 win over Nebraska Wesleyan on Feb. 10 last season. The Orange and Black set a new single game school record with their 66.1 field goal percentage. This bested the previous mark of 65.7% set against Dubuque in 2003.
Senior Adrienne Boettger (Cedar Falls) led the way with a career-high 13 points. Two teammates joined her in double figures as sophomore Tori Hazard (Janesville) had 13 and junior Emma Gerdes (Cedar Falls) had 11.
Sophomore Ally Conrad (Cedar Falls) had a team-best five rebounds.
Defensively, Wartburg held Carroll to a team three-point field goal percentage of 4.5%.
The Knights return to the court next Saturday when it hosts Beloit at 3 p.m.
