WAVERLY, Iowa-- Sophomores Tori Hazard (Janesville) and Kaitlyn Volesky (Mount Vernon) recorded career days with 20 and 10 points, respectively, to help No. 18/19 Wartburg defeat Coe (3-2, 1-1) 70-47 Saturday.
Hazard tallied 12 of her points in the first half alone. Her previous overall career high was 17 points at Loras last season when she played for Simpson.
Volesky's previous mark was eight set against Simpson earlier this week.
Junior Amanda Brainerd (DeWitt) narrowly missed a double-double with nine points and eight rebounds.
Neither team scored in the first nearly four minutes, until the Knights went on a 10-0 run over the next three and a half minutes. The Orange and Black built their lead to 13 at the end of the first quarter (18-5).
Wartburg continued to build its margin in the second frame and led by as many as 25 just before halftime. Defensively, the Knights held the Kohawks to a zero three-point field goal percentage in the first half.
The same strong rang true in the second half as the Orange and Black maintained a 20-plus point lead through the last two frames.
Wartburg has now won the last five-straight over the Kohawks.
The Knights owned the team advantages in field goal percentage (.431 vs. .278), three-point field goal percentage (.333 vs. .176), rebounds (42-28), and assists (15-6).
The Orange and Black take to the road Wednesday when they travel to face Loras at 6 p.m.
