LAS VEGAS-- Junior Emma Gerdes (Cedar Falls) scored a career-high 20 points in No. 23/24 Wartburg's (8-2 overall) 68-48 win over Cabrini (5-5) Wednesday to complete its competition at the Las Vegas Hoopla Tournament. Gerdes scored 15 of her total in the first half, and 10 in the second quarter alone. She surpassed her previous mark of 19 points set against UW-Eau Claire on Dec. 8.
Gerdes finished a perfect 5-5 at the free throw line to finish with a perfect free throw percentage for the 20th time in her career.
Senior Adrienne Boettger (Cedar Falls) joined her in double figures with 13 points. Junior Amanda Brainerd (DeWitt) led the team on the glass with nine rebounds.
The Knights jumped to a 23-11 lead at the end of the first quarter, and never relinquished their lead. The Orange and Black led by as many as 26 points late in the game.
Wartburg held the advantage in all three team shooting percentage categories, and held Cabrini to .182 from beyond the arc.
The Knights are off from competition until its annual Holiday Tournament Saturday, Dec. 29.
