No. 23/24 Wartburg Advances to Championship Game in Own Holiday Tournament

WAVERLY, Iowa-- The No. 23/24 Wartburg women's basketball team (9-2 overall) advanced to the championship game of its own Holiday Tournament in the 87-57 win over North Central (3-9) Saturday. The Knights will face No. 3/3 St. Thomas Sunday at 3 p.m. in the championship game.

Senior Adrienne Boettger (Cedar Falls) led all scorers with 19 points, 15 were scored in the first half alone. She also had a team-best seven rebounds. Junior Amanda Brainerd (DeWitt) and sophomore Bailey Naig (Emmetsburg) joined her in double figures with 10 points each. This marked a career-high for Naig, as her previous best was eight set against Iowa Wesleyan last season.

The Orange and Black took the 29-11 lead at the end of the first quarter, and never relinquished its hold. The Cardinals narrowly outscored Wartburg in the third quarter, but it wasn't enough to overcome the initial margin.

The Knights held the advantages in all three team shooting percentage categories, and owned the battle on the glass (43-24), assists (23-10), and blocks (3-2).

The Orange and Black return to the court Sunday at 3 p.m. The All-Tournament team will be announced after the game.
