FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – The Wartburg College Knights (7-4 overall) defeated the SUNY Poly Wildcats (2-8) 81-66 in the closing game of the Cruzin Classic on Friday evening.
Senior guard
Jaran Sabus (Urbandale) posted his first double-double of the season after leading the team with 22 points and 10 rebounds. With tonight's performance, Sabus moves to 15
th in program history for career points (1,245). Trailing Sabus in scoring was fellow senior guard
Cam Kickbush (Reinbeck), who tallied 19 points of his own after hitting five three-pointers, one shy of his career-high.
Wartburg got things started on a layup from senior center
Josh Gehling (Dyersville) off of a pass from Sabus to give the Orange and Black their first and only lead of the game, as the Knights wouldn't trail throughout the entirety of the match. The Knights' largest lead in the contest was 19 points, which came with 16:56 left to go in the second half.
The Knights led the Wildcats in field goal percentage (47.5% - 41.9%), free throw percent (73.9% - 42.9%), rebounds (43-29), assists (16-13) and steals (9-6).
The Orange and Black will return to the hardwood on Sunday, Dec. 30 when they travel to face Bethel University (5-4) with tip-off scheduled for 2 p.m.
