Softball Drops Both on Opening Day

CLERMONT, Fla.-- The Wartburg softball team dropped both games on its opening day Sunday. The Knights fell 3-1 to Penn State Behrend and 8-1 to Concordia Chicago.

The Lions took the early 2-0 lead in their first at-bats on a two-run single to right field. The Knights tallied their lone run in the fourth as freshman Sara Martin (Charles City) scored from first on an error. Penn State Behrend scored its final run on a sacrifice fly in the seventh.

The Cougars also took the early 2-0 lead in the first and added one in the fourth on a sac fly. Junior Kailee O'Brien (Altoona) drove in sophomore Emily Smillie (Parker, Colo.) in the fifth for the Orange and Black's lone run of the game.

Concordia tallied five in the fifth to take the 8-1 lead.

O'Brien went 2-4 at the plate.

Wartburg returns to the field tomorrow.
