CLERMONT, Fla.-- The Wartburg softball team split its games Monday. The Knights fell 10-2 in six innings to Franklin, but defeated Dominican (Ill.) 5-2.
The Grizzlies plated three in their first at-bats in the bottom of the first, and added six in the second to extend the lead to 9-0.
The Knights got on the board in the fourth as freshman Sara Martin (Charles City) hit a two-run double to right field. Franklin scored one in the bottom of the frame and the Orange and Black were retired in order in the fifth to seal the shortened game win.
Martin went 2-2 with two RBIs.
Dominican took the 2-0 lead in the third. Wartburg scored one in the fourth and four in the fifth as it capitalized on fielding errors by the Stars, to take the 5-2 lead.
Freshman Maddie Rog (Norridge, Ill.) pitched the complete game to earn her first collegiate victory in the circle
The Knights return to the field tomorrow.
