CLERMONT, Fla.-- The Wartburg softball team won both games Tuesday to move to 3-3 on the season and increased its winning streak to three.
The Knights avenged an loss earlier this week to Penn State Behrend with the 12-7 win. Each team plated a pair of runs in the first inning. The Orange and Black scored two in the second, but the Lions answered back with three in the bottom of the frame.
Wartburg plated three in the fourth, thanks to consecutive RBI doubles from senior Erica Countryman (Plainfield, Ill.), freshman Sar Martin (Charles City) and senior Mara Forsyth (Charles City) to reclaim the 7-5 lead.
The Knights answered with four runs in the sixth, thanks in part to Forsyth's second double of the game, which scored sophomore Liz Roby Miklus (Ankeny) and Martin. The final run occurred in the seventh on an RBI groundout by Martin.
Countryman and Forsyth both went 3-4.
In the final game of the day, the Orange and Black defeated Carthage, 6-3.
The Lady Reds took the early 2-0 lead in their first at-bats. This remained the score until Carthage plated one in the top of the fourth on a solo home run. Wartburg knotted the score at three all in the bottom of the frame on four hits. The Knights doubled their runs in their next at-bats to make it 6-3.
The Lady Reds had bases loaded with two outs, but hit into a force out at second which ended the rally attempt.
Freshman Camille Colen (West Sacramento, Calif.) earned the win with the complete game effort and struck out four.
