WAVERLY, Iowa-- The Wartburg baseball team (15-8 overall, 6-3 IIAC) completed the conference series sweep against Simpson (3-20, 2-10) Wednesday in the 15-5 win in eight innings.
The Knights have now won the past 12-straight over the Storm.
Simpson took the 2-0 lead in the second on two RBI singles. The Orange and Black took the 3-2 lead in their at-bats on a sacrifice fly and a two-run home run by sophomore Tyler Hovick (Roland).
The Storm had another two-run inning in the third to regain the 4-3 lead. Hovick tied it in the fourth on his RBI single up the middle that brought in sophomore Tyler Nunemaker (Ely).
Freshman Parker Ridge (Marion) scored the go-ahead run in the fifth as he scored on senior Cody Hyler's (Des Moines) triple to right field. Wartburg added three in the sixth, thanks in part to a two-run double by senior Eric Willis (Waverly), which made it 8-4.
Simpson tallied its final run in the seventh, before the Knights scored seven in the eighth all on two outs. Nunemaker hit a grand slam and Hovick hit the run-rule walk-off double to left field.
Nunemaker went 3-5 with three runs and four RBIs and Hovick was 3-4 with one run and four RBIs.
The Orange and Black continue their homestand this weekend against Luther in a conference series.
