CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa-- The Wartburg baseball team (25-12 overall) fell 3-2 to top-seed Dubuque (23-15) 3-2 Friday. This was the first time the teams had met in the IIAC Tournament since 2005. Interestingly, Wartburg lost by the same score in that game too.



The Spartans took the early 1-0 in the first on an RBI groundout. This remained the score until the fourth when the Spartans scored on triple to right centerfield and a Knights throwing error to extend their lead to 3-0.

In the top of the fifth, freshman Parker Ridge (Marion) doubled to left which drove in senior David Fitzgerald (Dubuque) from first. In the seventh, freshman JoJo McNair (Joliet, Ill.) drove in Fitzgerald to make it a one-run game at 3-2.

Ridge went 2-4 and McNair was 2-5.

The Orange and Black will play at 10 a.m. Saturday against Coe.
