MOUNT VERNON, Iowa-- The Wartburg volleyball team (7-7 overall) fell 3-1 to UW-River Falls (10-8) Saturday in the final match of the Cornell Classic.
The Falcons won the first two sets, 28-26, 25-23, before the Knights claimed the third set, 25-22. UWRF won the fourth meeting 25-21 to claim the match.
Senior Lizzy Blough (Dike) was one of three players in double digits for the Orange and Black with 15 kills. Freshman Jayme Willemssen (Waverly) matched her career-high with 11 and sophomore Kylie Bildstein (Dyersville) had 10.
Senior Mallary Erbes (Urbandale) set a new career mark with 45 assists, which broke her previous best of 44 set against Dubuque earlier this week. She added 21 digs, Blough had 14 and junior Hanna Halverson (Gilbertville) had a career-high 13.
The score of the first set remained close, and was tied at 21 all, 22, 23Â 24 all, 25, and 26. A kill and a service ace gave the Falcons the first frame.
As a team, the Knights owned the team advantages in digs (77-72), and blocks (7-3).
For her efforts on the weekend, Erbes was named to the All-Tournament team.
The Orange and Black return to action Tuesday when they host Bethel at 7 p.m.
