WAVERLY, Iowa – The Wartburg College Knights women's soccer team will face the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Blugolds on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
The Knights (6-3 overall; 1-0 ARC) are riding a three-game win streak into the matchup after defeating American Rivers Conference foe Coe College 4-0 over the weekend. On the year, the Knights are averaging 2.44 goals a game, with senior forwards
Nicole Adair (Reinbeck) and
Alyssa Drewelow (Cedar Rapids) leading the team with five and four goals, respectively. As a team, the Knights have scored 22 goals on 149 attempts (14.8%), with 76 of those attempts on goal (51%). Freshmen goalie
Marissa Lopez (Ankeny) has been solid over the course of the season, currently boasting a 2-0 record with 27 saves in just over 420 minutes of play. The Knights are coached by
Tiffany Pins, who's 88 career wins only trail former Knights coach Jim Conlon by eight wins for first all-time among Wartburg women's soccer coaches.
The Blugolds (3-3) are coming off back-to-back wins, most recently a 2-0 victory over St. Benedict on Sept. 16. The Blugolds haven't been in action since that game due to weather issues, as their Sept. 19
th matchup with Luther was canceled due to weather. The Blugolds have combined to score 12 goals this season, with Emily Sullivan leading the way with five. The Blugolds' goalie is Sammie Lefaive, who currently sits at 3-3 on the year, compiling 30 saves in 561 minutes of game time. The Blugolds are coached by Sean Yengo and are assisted by Shamus Funk, Sarah Wood, Scott DeRusha, and JD Jones.
The two programs have faced off a total of nine times in their respective histories, with the Knights dominating the all-time series 8-0-1. The last time the Knights faced the Blugolds was on Sept. 14, 2017, which saw the Knights travel to Eau Claire en route to a 2-1 victory. Coach Pins holds a 5-0-1 record over UW-Eau Claire in her time at Wartburg, including the current four-game win streak the Knights have over the Blugolds in their previous matchups.
