WAVERLY, Iowa – On a picture-perfect fall evening, senior forward
Ben Johnson led the Wartburg College Knights (1-2 overall) to victory over the Pioneers of Carroll University (0-3 overall) by a score of 5-0 in the Knights' home opener.
Johnson scored not once, not twice, but three times to complete the hat trick and give him his first three goals of the young season. Senior forward
Ayo Adebayo kept up his steady play, scoring his third goal of the season midway through the fourth minute of the second period.
Sophomore forward
Jack Palen tallied his first goal of the season on a breakaway play at the back end of the eleventh minute of the first period. The goal came off of an assist from junior
Nicolas Hubacz.
Senior goalkeeper
Paul Koebke Barsic (1-0) made his first start of the season and recorded a shutout victory with nine saves.
The Knights will be back in action this Sunday, Sept. 9, at 6:00 p.m. as they welcome in Gustavus Adolphus College (2-1 overall). The Golden Gusties are coming off of a 3-0 loss to Luther College.
