INDIANOLA, Iowa - The Wartburg football team advanced to an undefeated 7-0 record this season, with a 29-15 victory over the Simpson Storm.
The Knights ended the Storm's four-game winning streak and was the first conference opponent the Storm were unable to defeat. The Orange and Black now hold a perfect 5-0 American Rivers Conference record.
After trailing 9-0 at the start of the second quarter, the Knight's offense responded with
Noah Dodd throwing a 17-yard touchdown pass to
Brandan Childs. Several minutes later, another pass from Dodd to
Kolin Schulte gave the Orange and Black a 14-9 lead at halftime.
After a scoreless third quarter, the Storm took a slight 15-14. The Knights took back the lead with back-to-back touchdowns by
Mason Carter, with a completed two-point conversion pass by
Brandan Childs to
Lee Bonifas, and
Bennett Goettsch with a one yard run completion.
Dodd threw 232 yards with Goettsch earning 129 rushing yards and Carter following with 109.
Eli Barrett led Wartburg with 11 tackles.
Cedric Dobbins and
Antonio Santillan each had 10 tackles each and eight Knights notche four or more tackles.
Next up, the Knights will host Coe College on Saturday, Nov. 2 at Walston-Hoover Stadium.
