Knights' Strong Finish Leads to 48-27 win at Buena Vista

STORM LAKE, Iowa - No. 13 Wartburg football remained unbeaten with a 48-27 victory at Buena Vista University Saturday afternoon, improving to 5-0 overall and 3-0 during American Rivers Conference play. 

Down 20-14 at halftime, the Knights responded with the opening score in the third quarter and added 27 points in the final frame to seal the road victory. 

Kolin Schulte recorded over 100 receiving yards for a third-straight game, tallying career-highs with 11 catches for 190 yards. He caught three touchdown passes, two from Noah Dodd and another from Jace Moore

Noah Dodd's three TD passes stand as a career-high, as well as his 191 passing yards. Moore added 118 yards through the air. Bennett Goettsch also had a career performance, tallying 128 rushing yards, backed by an 80-yard run, one of five Wartburg scores in the fourth quarter. 

After a Nick Wall seven-yard TD reception gave Wartburg a 14-7 with just over five minutes remaining in the first half, the Beavers answered with a 88-yard kickoff return to tie the game and followed with a score with 3:21 remaining to gain the halftime advantage. 

The Orange and Black regrouped at the break and opening the second half with one of three Schulte TD catches, a 22-yard pass from Dodd to give the visitors a 21-20 lead. 

Wartburg allowed just one more Buena Vista score while adding four more touchdowns. Connor Bailey, Dodd, and Goettsch each scored on the ground while Schulte capped off the fourth-quarter barrage with his 10th touchdown of the season.

Defensively, Jason Fisher led the Knights with eight solo tackles, including two tackles for loss and a sack. Eli Barrett followed with seven tackles while notching three pass breakups and a fumble recovery.

The Knights host Nebraska Wesleyan next Saturday, Oct. 12 at Walson-Hoover Stadium during Wartburg Homecoming. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
