WAVERLY– For the second time in eight days, the Wartburg men's basketball team faced off against the Cornell Rams. The Rams avenged the previous loss with a 86-69 victory in the championship game of the Buzz Levick Tournament.
Tyler Zumbach (Anamosa) scored the first bucket of the game, but Cornell rallied off scores by Jordan Magnani and Devin Davis to take the lead. While the Knights got within range multiple times, Cornell carried the lead throughout the second half.
While Wartburg led the Rams in first-half free throws (11) and free throw percentage (81.82%), Cornell took advantage of Wartburg fouls to go 17-for-25 from the charity stripe in the second half. Cornell also led Wartburg in field goal percentage (53.8%-36.4%), three-point percentage (37.5%-34.8%), second chance points (9-2), points in the paint (22-16) and bench points (16-9).
Spencer Touro (Newhall) scored a team-high 20 points and added four steals. Zumbach and
Jack Molstead (Charles City) also scored in double-digits with 16 and 12, respectively.
Max Smith Drahos (Cedar Rapids) added three steals and a team-high six assists. Additionally,
Ryan Stulken (Walford) played in his first match in almost a year and scored five points.
As a team, Wartburg had 11 steals.

The Knights will close out a three-game homestead when they welcome Bethel at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 19. Wartburg will have two more nonconference road games before opening American Rivers Conference play on the road against Central on Dec. 4.
