WAVERLY - The Wartburg men's and women's cross country teams prepare to compete in the NCAA Division III National Championships this Saturday, Nov. 23 in Louisville, Ky., on the campus of Spalding University at Tom Sawyer State Park.
The men's 8k is scheduled to begin at 10:45 a.m., followed by the women's 6k at 11:45 a.m. (both times eastern).Â
2019 REGIONALS
Wartburg hosted the 2019 NCAA Central Region Championships last Saturday in Waverly, with the men winning the title for a second-straight year while the women earned a runner-up finish.
Joe Freiburger and
Carina Collet, American Rivers Conference MVP's, both placed second in their respective races.Â
The Knights collected 13 total All-Region honorees, six from the men and seven from the women.Â
LAST YEAR'S CHAMPIONSHIPS
In 2018, the Wartburg men took fifth of 32 teams with 227 points, tying a program record for best finish at the national meet, matching the 2003 squad's finish.
Sam Pinkowski placed 27th to earn All-America status.Â
The women placed 26th of 32 teams with 575 points while
Carina Collet received All-American laurels with a 15th place finish.Â
IN THE POLLS
In the latest USTFCCCA Division III national rankings, released Tuesday, Nov. 19, Wartburg men rank No. 9 while the women rank No. 8.Â
