WAVERLY, Iowa - The Wartburg women's soccer team had a 4-0 victory over the Dubuque Spartans Wednesday night to advance on to the American Rivers Conference Championship game.
At the thirty-one minute mark,
Emily Fontana scored the first goal of the match, her second of the season, to give the Knights a 1-0 lead.
Ten minutes later,
Molly Close scored a goal off a corner kick by
Sarah Campbell and assist by
Joy Smith, her second of the season, giving the Orange and Black a 2-0 advantage at half.
Close started off the second half with her second goal of the game at the 50-minute mark from another corner by Campbell and assist by
Gabby Corday.Â
Several minutes later,
Annie Place scored her third goal of the season off assists by Fontana and
Kate Luers, giving the Knights a 4-0 victory over the Spartans and advancing on to the A-R-C Championships.Â
Wartburg outshot Dubuque 22-2 with nine shots on goal and had an 8-3 corner kick advantage.
The Knights will host No. 5 seed Luther on Saturday, Nov. 9.Â
