WAVERLY - No. 6 Wartburg women's basketball broke the century mark for the second time this season, earning a 108-68 American Rivers Conference victory over Nebraska Wesleyan University Saturday afternoon at Levick Arena.
The Knights (8-1, 3-0 A-R-C) bested its 103-point output at Central College in the conference opener Dec. 4. The 108 points is the most since 2003, a school record 113 points vs. Dubuque.
Wartburg collected season-highs in nearly every offensive category while shooting 37-of-71 from the field, 12-of-34 from three-point range, and 22-of-27 at the charity stripe.
Four Knights scored in double figures, led by 19 points by
Emma Gerdes in the first half alone. The Orange & Black opened the game on a 10-0 run and didn't look back, converting 20-of-36 first half field goals while drawing 14 Prairie Wolf fouls and going 6-15 from beyond the arc to claim a 59-28 advantage heading into the locker room.
14 Knights contributed in the scoring column, including 60 bench points. Behind Gerdes,
Payton Draper,
Tori Hazard, and
Bailey Naig each tallied 11 points. Naig led with a career-high nine rebounds while Gerdes and
Macy Harris shared the team-lead with five assists each.
Wartburg maintained a lead for the entire contest, extending its lead to 50 near the end of the third quarter with a
Bailey Brown three-pointer.
