FORT LAUERDALE,
Fla. - The Wartburg men's basketball team suffered a 57-56 loss to SUNY New Paltz in the final game of the Cruzin' Classic.
The Knights started off the first half with a lead over the Hawks. With 5:31 left, the score was tied up 22-22, where a set of free throws by
Noah May gave the Orange and Black a one point lead. The teams were back and forth in scoring where the Hawks were able to take a 30-28 lead with three minutes remaining in the half.
Two-minutes into the second,
Max Smith Drahos tied up the game after two good free throws. The Knights and Hawks were neck-in-neck scoring throughout the entire second half. With 1:02 left in the game, a good jump shot gave SUNY New Paltz a one point win over Wartburg.
Jack Molstead led the Orange and Black with 14 points and contributed one rebound and one steal. Seven other Knights scored with 14 points coming from the bench.
Wartburg was 19-of-64 in field goal shooting and 9-13 at the free throw line.
Ryan Stulken led the team with a season high 12 rebounds.
Tyler Zumbach and
Jacob Kuhlemeier each contributed six rebounds.
The team had a total of 50 rebounds, six steals and three blocks.
Stulken was named to the 2019 Cruzin' Classic Top Performer Team, averaging 12 points and 8.5 rebounds during a pair of Florida contests.
Next up, the Knights will host conference opponent University of Dubuque Spartans on Saturday, Jan. 4 at 4 pm.
