No. 13/15 Wartburg Three-Peats As Conference Tournament Champions

WAVERLY, Iowa-- The No. 13/15 Wartburg women's basketball team (24-3 overall) won the Conference Tournament Championships for the third-straight year in the 73-61 win over Loras (22-5). The Knights will learn their opponent and game location Monday afternoon during the NCAA Selection Show. This marks the fourth-straight trip to the NCAA Tournament for the program.

With the victory, the Orange and Black also moved their winning streak to 12 and snapped the Duhawks' at seven.

Four players finished in double digits for Wartburg as senior Adrienne Boettger (Cedar Falls) led the contingent with 19. Junior Amanda Brainerd (DeWitt) was next with 14 points, classmate Emma Gerdes (Cedar Falls) had 13 and sophomore Ally Conrad (Cedar Falls) followed with 11.

Boettger led the team on the glass with seven rebounds.

Loras took the narrow lead (16-14) at the end of the first quarter on a basket as time expired. The Duhawks built their margin to six (24-18) just under three minutes into the second quarter, but the Knights would later knot the game at 28 and 30 all, with 22 seconds to go. Loras used another basket, this one a trey, to take the three-point lead into halftime.

The Duhawks used a 22-18 third quarter to make the score 55-48. The Orange and Black opened the last frame on a 10-2 run over the first five minutes to take their first lead of the game at 58-57. Wartburg pushed its margin to six with a layup from Boettger and three-point field goal by Brainerd with 3:49 to play. The Knights made the lead double digits as they made their free throws down the stretch.

The Orange and Black owned all three team shooting percentage categories, rebounds (36-30), assists (16-12), and blocks (3-2).
