Softball Travels to Face Buena Vista to Open Conference Play

WAVERLY, Iowa-- The Wartburg softball team (15-5 overall) travels to face Buena Vista (14-6) Sunday at 1 p.m. to open the conference portion of its schedule. This doubleheader was moved from Saturday due to projected weather. The Knights enter the weekend on a five-game winning streak and BV has won its last two-straight.

The Series
Buena Vista holds the all-time series lead at 46-35, though the teams have split the twinbills the last two seasons.

Wartburg
Senior Liz Roby-Miklus (Ankeny) leads the team with her .524 average and 34 stolen bases. She enters the weekend on a 19-game hitting streak. Classmate Kailee O'Brien (Altoona) follows with her .471 average, and freshman Olivia Brecht (Center Point) joins them above .400 at .407.

Freshman Sydney Illg (Grimes) has a team-best 20 RBIs. Senior Brenna Gray (Waterloo) leads the starting pitchers with five wins and 4.04 ERA. Sophomore Maddie Rog (Norridge, Ill.) has a team-best 27 strikeouts.

Career Record Watch
Roby-Miklus continues to extend her lead as the program leader in stolen bases and has 97 to date. O'Brien ranks third with 53 and is eighth in hits with 156.

Reicks is the all-time leader with 10 saves.

Single Season Record Watch
Reicks' five saves on the young season is ties her own mark at first on the single season leader list. Roby-Miklus ranks second in stolen bases (34) and O'Brien is tied for seventh (17).

National Stat Rankings
Wartburg ranks in the top 100 of nine statistical categories, which the NCAA released Monday.
 
The Knights rank 1st in stolen bases per game (5.71), 13th in double plays per game (.71), 57th in on base percentage (.423), 60th in batting average (.347), 61st in scoring (6.86), 70th in won-lost percentage (.714), 88th in slugging percentage (.455), 89th in home runs per game (.43), and 95th in earned run average (2.6).
 
Individually, seven Knights rank in the top 100 of seven statistical categories: Roby-Miklus ranks 1st in stolen bases (1.57), 70th in hits (22), and 97th in runs per game (1.29); O'Brien ranks 16th in stolen bases (1) and 70th in hits (22); Gray ranks 41st in victories (5); Reicks ranks 8th in saves (2); Rog ranks 79th in victories (4); Illg ranks 3rd in sacrifice flies (3), 37th in stolen bases (.86), and 82nd in RBIs (15); and freshman Madison Hiestand (Plainfield, Ill.) ranks 8th in saves (2).

Buena Vista
Kate Lesmeister leads her team with a .385 batting average. Carlee Guyett follows at 339. Pitcher Ashtyn Miller is 4-0 in the circle with a 2.69 ERA in 39.0 innings pitched.
