Roby-Miklus Becomes Career Leader in Stolen Bases as Wartburg Moves Winning Streak to Four

CLERMONT, Fla.-- Senior Liz Roby-Miklus (Ankeny) became Wartburg's career leader in stolen bases Wednesday as the Knights also moved their winning streak to four. Roby-Miklus now has 78 career stolen bases to date, which surpasses the previous record of 77 set by Natalie Curran in 2000-02.

The Orange and Black defeated Penn State Hazleton 13-1 in five innings and used a two-run walk off home run by freshman Olivia Brecht (Center Point) to beat Moravian 8-6.

Wartburg is now 7-1 overall and has won its last four-straight.

Against the Nittany Lions, the Knights took the early 1-0 lead in their first at-bats as Brecht drove in senior Kailee O'Brien (Altoona) on her RBI single to left. PSU-Hazleton evened the score in the bottom of the frame on a passed ball.

Freshman Jenna Levine (DeKalb, Ill.) gave Wartburg the 3-1 lead with her two run home run. The Knights batted around in the third and tallied five runs to extend their margin. Levine picked up her fourth RBI of the game with her RBI single to right in the fourth. The Orange and Black batted around once more in the fifth and scored four runs to make it 13-1.

The Nittany Lions had runners on first and second with two outs, and advanced to second and third on a passed ball. The next batter popped out to short to seal the run-rule win for Wartburg.

Roby-Miklus, O'Brien and Levine all had two hits and Levine had a team-best four RBIs. Senior Brenna Gray (Waterloo) earned the win in the circle.

Against the Greyhounds, the Knights once again took the early 1-0 lead in the first as Roby-Miklus scored on freshman Sydney Illg's (Grimes) sacrifice bunt. Moravian tallied three in the third, thanks in part to a two-run homer to take the 3-1 lead.

The Orange and Black sliced the margin to one in the fourth on an RBI double by Brecht. The Greyhounds used a solo home run in the fifth to make it 4-2.

Wartburg plated three in the bottom of the frame to take the 5-4 lead. Moravian evened the score again in the sixth on another solo homer. Levine had her second roundtripper of the day to leadoff the sixth to take the 6-5 lead.

The Greyhounds tied the game once more in the top of the seventh with an RBI double. With two outs and O'Brien on first, Brecht had the walk-off hit to seal the win for the Knights.

Brecht went 3-4 with four RBIs and sophomore Lauren Reicks (Cresco) picked up the win as she pitched in relief.

O'Brien has also moved into third on the career leader list with 45 stolen bases.

The Orange and Black are off from competition tomorrow and will return to the field Friday.
