INDIANOLA, Iowa - The No. 7-ranked Wartburg women's basketball team was upset at Simpson College Wednesday evening, falling 66-62 to the Storm.
Simpson downed the Knights to improve its win streak to 10 while ending a nine-game series winning streak for Wartburg over the Storm. Both teams move to 6-2 during American Rivers Conference competition.
A slow start put the visiting Knights behind by nine points after the first 10 minutes, trailing 22-13 as Wartburg especially struggled to find a shooting stride from beyond the arc. In the second quarter, Wartburg outscored Simpson to trim the deficit to 32-28.
In the second half, the Orange & Black improved its field goal percentage and began to trim into the Simpson lead in the final quarter. A
Payton Draper layup with under four minutes remaining knotted the game at 55-55. The Knights tied up the game again one more time, but weren't able to gain a lead throughout the remainder of the contest.
The Storm shot nearly 50 percent from three-point range on the night, compared to a 5-for-32 clip for the Knights. Wartburg, however, led 32-16 in points in the paint and 21-13 in points off turnovers.
Amanda Brainerd and Draper led Wartburg with 16 and 15 points, respectively.
Kaitlyn Volesky led with seven rebounds.

Wartburg, now 14-3 overall, remain on the road for its next A-R-C matchup on Saturday, heading to Lincoln, Neb. to face Nebraska Wesleyan University.
