WAVERLY, Iowa - The No.10-ranked Wartburg women's basketball team took a 75-55 victory at home over American Rivers Conference rival Coe College.
Starting off the game with a seven point lead, the Knights held the Kohawks to only scoring in the single digits during the first quarter.
A layup with 7:22 left by junior
Kaitlyn Volesky gave Wartburg its biggest lead of the half with an 18 point ahead. Coe brought the game within 10 points with just under two minutes remaining.
With 30 seconds to go, a three by senior
Emma Gerdes put Wartburg up 41-28 heading into the locker rooms.
In the third, Coe brought the score within single digits after connecting a three at the 6:18 minute mark. Junior
Tori Hazard responded with two free throws followed by a layup to put Wartburg ahead by 11. With under a minute remaining, another layup by Hazard gave the Orange and Black a 20 point advantage at the end of the quarter.
The Knights too their biggest lead of the game when a three by sophomore
Hannah Anderson put Wartburg up by 28 with 4:46 remaining. The Kohawks responded with eight points to end the game 75-55.
Gerdes led Wartburg with 17 points. Hazard and junior
Ally Conrad each notched 12 points while Anderson contributed 11. Six other Knights scored with 25 points coming from the bench.
Wartburg was 26-of-51 in field goal shooting, 15-28 from the arc and 8-15 at the free throw line. The Knights had 38 total rebounds, five blocks and four steals.
Next up, Wartburg is back at Levick Arena on Saturday to face conference opponent Central. Tipoff is at 2 p.m.
