WAVERLY - The No. 10-ranked Wartburg women's basketball team won its third consecutive with a 90-62 American Rivers Conference victory over Central College Saturday afternoon at Levick Arena.
The Knights improved to 17-3 overall and 9-2 during A-R-C action, including a now 9-1 record on their home court.
Per usual, the Orange & Black offense was paced by a collective effort, with five Knights scoring in double figures.
Ally Conrad and
Payton Draper led the way with 13 points each, followed by 12 from
Macy Harris, 11 from
Emma Gerdes, and 10 from
Kaitlyn Volesky. Gerdes led with six rebounds and six assists.
Wartburg shot 30-of-64 from the field, 13-of-30 from beyond the arc, and 17-of-21 at the charity stripe. The home team forced 21 Central turnovers while collecting 13 steals, totaling 25 points off Dutch giveaways.
In the first 10 minutes, the Knights shot 60 percent from the field while gaining a 27-12 advantage. Free throws from Volesky with just over a minute remaining gave Wartburg its largest lead of the first half with a 28-point advantage and took a 50-27 lead into the break.
The third frame featured efficient scoring numbers for Wartburg (9-of-14) while the Knights extended their lead to into the 30's, in which they maintained for the majority of the final 10 minutes. The Orange & Black led by at least 25 in the fourth quarter with 26 points coming off the bench to seal the win.
Next week, Wartburg heads on the road to Decorah on Wednesday, Feb. 5 to face Luther College prior to a bye on Saturday.
