DECORAH, Iowa - No. 9 Wartburg women's basketball secured the series sweep over Luther College Wednesday evening, defeating the Norse 79-59 to improve to 10-2 during American Rivers Conference action.
The Knights jumped out to a 13-point lead after one quarter and didn't look back, holding on to a lead throughout the contest. Wartburg shot nearly 50 percent from the field while limiting Luther to 34.4% shooting from the field and 20 percent from long range.
Four Knights scored in double figures, led by 16-point efforts each by
Tori Hazard and
Kaitlyn Volesky; a season-high for Hazard and career-best for Volesky.
Emma Gerdes and
Ally Conrad combined for 23 points while Gerdes led with five assists.
Near the midway point of the second quarter, the Orange & Black extended its advantage into the 20's with a
Katie Lindeman layup, and maintained at least an 18-point lead heading into the break.
Early into the fourth frame, the Norse trimmed the Wartburg lead to nine, capping off an 8-2 run to force an Orange & Black timeout. However, the Knights answered after the break with a three-pointer from Conrad and preserved at least a 12-point lead for the rest of the game.

Wartburg, now 18-3 overall and winners of four-straight, have a bye this upcoming Saturday prior to returning to Levick Arena next Wednesday, Feb. 12. Wartburg hosts Buena Vista University at 5:30 p.m. for its "Play4Kay" game, benefiting the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
