Knights Close Out 2020 with A-R-C Cross Country Championships

WAVERLY, Iowa - The Wartburg men's and women's cross country teams are set to wrap up its 2020 season this Saturday, Nov. 7, at the American Rivers Conference Championships in Pella, Iowa, on the campus of Central College.

The women's 6krace is scheduled for 2 p.m., followed the men's 8k race at 3 p.m., taking place at Central College Cross Country Course.

SPECTATOR POLICY
Event management will limit spectators to 2 (two) per runner that is entered in the meet. Those admitted spectators shall be designated with wristbands, provided at the course entrance on the afternoon of the meet. The pick-up area for the wristbands is at the top of the Fifield Road side of the course (spectator parking is off Fifield Road). A plateau overlooks the course and also serves as the tee box for Central College's golf driving range. Table workers from Central College will staff the the tee-box area.

All spectators, staff, and officials shall be required to wear face coverings at all times.

THOSE THAT DO NOT HAVE WRISTBANDS WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE THE COURSE. The participating schools ask you to respect this policy as Central College and A-R-C office personnel strive to conduct an event that protects the athletes, coaches, and staff. Please consider the alternative of watching the live stream on Instagram that will be found at @AmericanRiversConference.

The Knights look to defend their 2019 titles with the men going for three-straight and two in-a-row for the women. Seniors Joe Freiburger (Holy Cross) and Carina Collet (Verona, Ill.) are both coming off first place and MVP finishes last fall.

Wartburg men and women have each swept its competition in 2020, earning four meet victories leading up to the conference championships. The men and women have both strung together perfect scores during a pair of meets this fall.

Freiburger has been the front runner in the American Rivers Conference, going undefeated while receiving four conference Runner of the Week awards as well as a trio of USTFCCCA Men's Division III Athlete of the Week accolades.

Collet and Aubrie Fisher (So., Ackley) have paced the women's squad. Fisher was undefeated prior to the Wartburg Triangular (Oct. 24) and was named the USTFCCCA Women's DIII Athlete of the Week Oct. 13 after setting a Max Cross Country Course record with a 6k time of 21:32.8 during the Dan Huston Triangular. Collet, a two-time All-American and A-R-C MVP, is coming off a personal best time of 21:28.2 - the third-best time in program history.
