Softball Sweeps Thursday Games in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. - The No. 21-ranked Wartburg softball team improved its record to 7-1 during its spring trip with wins on Thursday afternoon over Neumann University and the University of Northwestern-St. Paul. 

The Knights outscored Neumann and UNW 16-1, winning their fourth and fifth consecutive games. 

Leah Campos and Sydney Illg led the Orange & Black offense on the day, totaling four hits and two runs batted in each. Madison Stoaks tallied three RBI and Jenna Levine with three doubles.

Sophomore pitcher Madison Hiestand improved her record to 3-0 on the season with her second complete game, pitching seven innings with with four strikeouts. 

Illg led the Knights with three hits at the top of the order, followed by two hits a piece from Megan Ritter, Levine, and Campos. 

Wartburg totaled six runs in the first two innings, led by a four-run second inning headlined by RBI doubles from Lauren Frerichs and Campos. 

Levine's first of two doubles on the game in the first inning stood as the eventual game-winning RBI. 

Wartburg 8, Northwestern 0 (5 inn.)
Maddie Rog and Carly Salutric combined for the five-inning shutout over the Eagles, Rog earning the win with five strikeouts in four innings, allowing just three hits. 

Stoaks and Campos both went 2-for-2 at the plate, while a trio of Knights recorded 2-RBI games; Illg, Stoaks, and Jordan Swiatkowski

After one run in the first, the Orange & Black bats broke out for four runs in the second, and three in the third, sealing the win.

The Knights have a pair of games on deck for tomorrow, facing Millikin University at 2:30 p.m., and the Milwaukee School of Engineering at 4:45 p.m. (both times eastern).
