WAVERLY, Iowa - The Wartburg women's tennis team will begin its 2020-21 season on the road at the University of Dubuque for a conference matchup with the Spartans and a non-conference contest against Grand View University on Saturday, Sept. 5 at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
The Knights were previously scheduled to open their conference season against Dubuque on Wednesday, Sept. 2 but that match will now be played on Saturday.
The Knights fared well last season, posting an 8-6 overall record and a 6-2 ledger in conference play. The women shut out the Spartans 9-0 in the only contest between the two teams a year ago. Wartburg finished in third place in the American Rivers Conference while Dubuque trailed much of the pack with its 1-7 record and eighth place finish. Grand View, a member of the Heart of America Athletic Conference, finished the 2019-20 schedule with a 1-6 record.Â
Madison Overmann,
Olivia Phillips and
Sydney Powers all received medals in last year's A-R-C championship and will lead the way for Wartburg this season. The Knights welcome four freshmen for the upcoming campaign in
Bailey VanDusseldorp,
Bailey Sinnwell,
Chihiro Ono and
Georgia Nissen. Seniors
Rebekah Corson, Powers and
Sydney Rottinghaus will make their final season debut tomorrow afternoon.Â
Wartburg will begin the weekend against Dubuque at 10 a.m. followed by a matchup against the Vikings at 1 p.m. before returning home next weekend for its home opener against Saint Ambrose and Iowa Central on Sept. 12.Â
