DUBUQUE, Iowa - Wartburg men's basketball suffered a 71-88 nonconference defeat against the University of Dubuque in its first road contest of the season on Saturday, Jan. 16 inside the Stoltz Sports Center. The Knights were led by junior guard
Drew Olson who put up a career-high 20 points off the bench on 7-of-9 shooting.
Up next, the Orange and Black (1-2, 0-0 A-R-C) will begin their American Rivers Conference schedule against Nebraska Wesleyan University (0-0, 0-0 A-R-C) on Saturday, Jan. 23 at 2 p.m. inside Levick Arena.
It was a tail of two halves for Wartburg as they fell behind 32-48 after the first as the Spartans were on fire from long range, hitting 7-of-11 at a 63.6% clip. However, the Knights shot 54.1% from the field and 44.4% from 3-point land in the second half to make the game competitive but the hot shooting from Dubuque was too much for Wartburg.
In addition to Olson, junior forward
Davis Roquet reached double figures in scoring with 10 points. Olson recorded a team-high five rebounds in the contest and sophomore guard
Jack Molstead garnered four assists, which led the team. The Knights' bench led by Olson outscored the supporting cast of Dubuque 44-32. Defensively, Wartburg forced 13 turnovers on four steals and three blocks.
