WAVERLY, Iowa - Wartburg women's basketball secured its sixth victory in just as many games when it defeated Iowa Wesleyan University 104-46 on Wednesday, Jan. 27 inside Levick Arena. The Knights' 58-point margin was the largest of the campaign and they have now won 11 of the 12 meetings against the Tigers including five straight. 

The Orange & Black (6-0, 1-0 A-R-C) return to American Rivers Conference play this Saturday, Jan. 30 when they travel to Storm Lake, Iowa to take on Buena Vista University (0-1, 0-1 A-R-C) with tip-off set for 7 p.m.

The Knights shot the ball well early and often as they broke out on a 16-4 run just two minutes into the contest. Senior guard Ally Conrad was in a groove from deep in the opening period as she drained three of her five shots from beyond the arc and totaled nine first-period points. Wartburg increased the tempo of the game as time progressed courtesy of its suffocating full-court trap and forced eight turnovers in the first. The Knights concluded the period 54.5% from the field and 40% from 3-point land. 

The Knights' defense continued to frustrate the Tigers as they held Iowa Wesleyan to just two made field goals in the second period. Wartburg rode the momentum from the first into the second and shot 50% from the field and outscored Iowa Wesleyan 19-7 in the second frame to lead 47-19 at halftime. 

It was much of the same in the third frame as Wartburg shot a staggering 59.1% from the field and 42.9% from long range. Defensively, the Knights allowed only one field goal in the third with the majority of the Tigers' points coming from the free-throw line.

Junior guard Gabby Schwarting shined in the fourth when she knocked down all three of her shots and posted a career-high seven points. The Knights finished the contest 55.8% from the field, 40.6% from 3-point land and 50% from the line. The Orange & Black also recorded a season-high 104 points, which was the second time Wartburg has reached triple figures this season. 

Wartburg had five players reach double figures in scoring with freshman forward Jaedon Murphy leading the way with 14 points. Kaitlyn Volesky, Macy Harris, Conrad and Sara Faber all earned 10 or more points. Freshman guard Britney Young notched a career-high five assists in the contest, which tied for the game-high with Conrad. Senior forward Payton Draper recorded a team-best seven rebounds. Wartburg outscored the Tigers 58-16 in the paint and the supporting cast for the Knights put up 63 points compared to Iowa Wesleyan's three. 

Defensively, Wartburg held the Tigers to just 23.7% shooting from the field, 19% from long range and 70% from the charity stripe. The Knights forced 19 turnovers on a season-high 14 steals and a season-best 11 blocks.
