#18 Women's Soccer Set to Continue A-R-C Competition

WAVERLY, Iowa – #18 women's soccer (7-1-1, 1-0 A-R-C) is at home Saturday, Oct. 2 for Senior Day match against Coe College with kickoff set for 1 p.m.

In The Polls

Wartburg has moved to no. 18 in the latest United Soccer Coaches national poll and No. 2 in the region IX rankings. Loras College is the only other American Rivers Conference school represented in the national top-25 coming in at No. 14. In the region IX poll, Loras has jumped to the top spot and Central College is at No. 7.

 
The Orange & Black are averaging 2.33 goals a game this season on an average of 16.6 shots, while only allowing 0.44 goals on only an average of nine shots per game. In goal, Marissa Lopez has started every game for the Orange & Black and has recorded 41 saves with a save percentage of 91.1 %. Lopez's goals against average so far this season is 0.41.

Joy Smith is leading the Wartburg offensively with seven goals and one assist for a total of 15 points. The Knights also have Berglund, Luers, and Lauren Kirkle who have recorded three goals each.
 
Last Time Out
The Knights were last on the pitch Saturday, Sept. 25 when they opened American Rivers Conference play with a 4-1 win over the University of Dubuque. In the first half of that match, Wartburg scored three goals in just four minutes of gameplay following an opening goal from the Spartans. Katie Berglund scored two goals and Kate Luers had the other in the socring flurry. Emily Fontana scored her first goal of the season in the second half to push the lea to 4-1.
 
Coe College
Coe College comes into this competition having lost five of its last six matches but opened A-R-C play with a 4-0 win its last time on the pitch. Coe defeated Buena Vista 4-0 in Storm Lake, Iowa on Saturday, Sept. 25 so this will be the Kohawks first action in a week as well.

The Kohawks are led by Amanda Hiebert on offense, who has three goals and one assist for a total of seven points in just five games played. Lauren Dufoe also has three goals for Coe this season, including one in her last game.
 
Alex Montalbano is the leading goalkeeper for Coe with a save percentage of 78.8% as well as 41 saves recorded.
