The Knights were defeated 2-1 on Wednesday, Oct. 20 in a nationally ranked matchup with No. 9 Loras College.
The Knights struck first when
Katie Berglund beat the keeper in the fourth minute to give the Knights an early 1-0 lead. The goal marked Berglund's fourth of the season. The Duhawks would answer in the 19
th minute, when Abby Eriksen netted the equalizer off an unassisted shot.
The match went into the half tied 1-1. In the second half, Loras would break the tie in the 81
st minute when Brynn Jacobi scored off assists from Ryleigh O'Brian and Payton McDonnell to make the match 2-1. The Knights finished strong in the last nine minutes of play, but Berglund's late shot on goal to tie the match was saved by the Duhawks.
Loras outshot the Knights 17-9 in total shots and 10-5 in shots on goal throughout the match. The Duhawks also held a slight advantage in corner kicks five to four.
Throughout the 2021 season, the Orange & Black are averaging 2.87 goals per game on an average of 20.2 shots while allowing only 0.47 goals per game on 8.1 shots. The Knights are outscoring opponents 43-7.
Joy Smith is leading the Knights offense with 22 total points coming from 10 goals and two assists.
Kate Luers also has added seven goals and three assists for a total of 17 points.
Defensively, the Knights have shutout three of their last five opponents.
Marissa Lopez anchors the Orange & Black's defense in goal and has recorded 58 saves with a goals against average of 0.50 per game.
Nebraska Wesleyan
The Prairie Wolves are coming off a 1-0 win over Coe College on Saturday, Oct. 16 in their last competition. Over the last five matches, NWU has won two and lost three to push its record to 5-9 overall and 2-4 in the A-R-C.
NVU is led by Sabrina Ochterbeck and Olivia Munroe who have both netted three goals for the Prairie Wolves. In goal, Leslie Borges has started 14 games and recorded 72 saves with a save percentage of 70.6%.
