#19 Women's Soccer Looks to Continue A-R-C Success

WAVERLY, Iowa – #19 women's soccer continues its 2021 schedule with a road match against Simpson College at 5 p.m. in an American Rivers Conference matchup.
 
Saturday, Oct. 9 – 5:00 p.m. – Indianola, Iowa – Buxton Stadium
Wartburg Knights (9-1-1, 2-0 A-R-C) at Simpson Storm (7-4-1, 1-1 A-R-C)

In The Polls
In the most recent poll released by United Soccer Coaches, the Knights are at No. 19 nationally and hold the No. 2 position in the region IX poll. Loras College joins Wartburg as the only schools in the A-R-C ranked nationally coming in at No. 13.
 
The Orange & Black are also ranked in the D3soccer.com top-25 this week coming in at 25th. This is the second week Wartburg is ranked in the D3soccer.com top-25.
 
Last Time Out
The Knights' last contest was a 3-0 shutout win on Sunday, Oct. 3 at Grinnell College to move to 9-1-1 on the season. Joy Smith got the offense started with a goal coming in the fourth minute of play off an assist from Kate Luers. The goal is a team-leading eighth score for the Smith this season. Gabby Corday would also add a goal in the first half to make it 2-0. Lauren Kirkle assisted the goal for her second assist of the season. The second half saw only one goal and it was Rachael Christmann who netted a penalty kick attempt to score in back-to-back games.
 
The Orange & Black have scored five goals and given up none in the last two matches. Wartburg has outshot their last two opponents 52-2 with an advantage in shots on goal 25-1. Marissa Lopez now has six shutout wins in goal for the Knights this season and has recorded 42 saves with a save percentage of 91.3%.
 
Simpson College
Simpson comes into the match with a 7-4-1 overall record and a 1-1 record in the A-R-C. The Storm won their last match with a 2-1 victory over Central College and are now 4-2 in their last six matches.
 
Offensivley, Simpson is led by junior forward Cassie Nash, who has scored seven goals and assisted on three others to account for 17 points so far this season. The Storm have nine players with at least one goal scored.

The all-time series record between these schools is 19-11-2 in favor of Wartburg. The Knights are 10-0-1 in the last 11 matchups with the Storm.
